In 1876 Central Otago was in the middle of the second biggest gold rush the world had seen. Thousands of hardy prospectors were working the unforgiving rocks and riverbeds in pursuit of the elusive gold nuggets. It was thirsty work, in a parched land, much of which gets the least rainfall in New Zealand.

Speight’s Brewery has stood on the same site in Dunedin’s Rattray St since 1876. For Speight’s lovers it is as close as you get to sacred ground. The Speight’s Brewery Tour is a ‘must do’ when visiting the city.
